Take A Stand

Take a Stand: Free Spokane Teen Program for Bystander Intervention, Youth Leadership, Healthy Relationships, and Dating Abuse Prevention

Speak Up. Step In. Create Change.

Take a Stand is a bold, action-focused program that equips teens with the skills and confidence to safely intervene when they witness dating abuse, bullying, or harmful behavior among peers. Through real-life scenarios, group discussions, and role-playing, students learn how to recognize warning signs, respond appropriately, and support those in need.

Designed for Spokane-area youth ages 13 and up, this program challenges the idea that abuse is “someone else’s problem.” Instead, teens are empowered to become part of the solution—transforming school culture and peer relationships one decision at a time.

What Students Learn

  • Bystander Intervention Techniques
Practical tools for stepping in safely—whether it’s speaking up, offering support, or getting help from an adult.

  • Healthy Peer Influence

  • Courageous Leadership
Inspiring teens to lead by example, even when it’s hard, and stand up for what’s right.

  • Empathy & Responsibility
Encouraging compassion, self-awareness, and a strong sense of accountability for creating safe, respectful communities.

Program Format

  • Audience: Ages 13-24

  • Format: Classroom workshop, youth group session, or assembly

  • Length: 45–60 minutes (adaptable based on your needs)

  • Cost: Always free for schools and youth-serving organizations

Why Take A Stand Matters

Teens often witness harmful behavior long before adults do. Whether it’s emotional abuse, controlling behavior, or peer pressure, early intervention can make all the difference. Take a Stand gives youth the tools to not only recognize abuse but take meaningful, safe action—turning bystanders into upstanders.

Empowered teens are the key to shifting school culture, preventing abuse, and supporting their peers.

What Educators & Teens Are Saying

“Create Your Statement taught me that abuse is not your fault. Through this program my eyes have been opened to the fact that I am worthy of love, compassion and kindness in every relationship and nothing less should be tolerated. A few years ago I was a wreck, constantly crying and begging my ex to stay with me. I was brainwashed. And here I stand today, stronger and more empowered than I have ever been as a woman. Now I love myself, and I love myself loudly. After going through this incredible program, I know that I am a leader right where I am, I am priceless and I don’t need a boy to feel complete. At age 14 I could have been dead, I am so thankful that Create Your Statement is providing awareness. God has a purpose for me. I can now focus on my own future, my own goals and I never had to say I’m sorry again.”

For one short month, I took a class that changed my life. It taught me that I can change the world, I deserve to be treated with respect, that I shouldn’t change for anyone, and most of all, that I am PRICELESS. My world was flipped upside down just before my freshman year of high-school, and I really cannot thank the REDFLAG program enough for making me feel like the strong girl I forgot I was at the time. All too often, we forget how blessed and simply amazing we are, and at my Statement class, we were reminded each time that we are each our own kind of beautiful and do not have to settle for anyone. One of my favorite activities our class leader, Jenny, had us do was write down all of the things we liked about ourselves. After we did so, we were supposed to go home and hang the list on a mirror or a place we would read it often.

It was such a simple piece of paper, yet it could make me smile in times that I felt hopeless. Personally, I learned signs of dating abuse, ways to end domestic violence, and that I should live my life for no one but myself and live it to the fullest. Now I am able to see that I can make the world a better place, and I can assure you that I will do so for the rest of my life. Make a statement!
